The sky growing dark, clouds hiding the islands
The sea stained with oranges and blues
The fog slips in silent to wrap the shore’s black rock
Brings the dream girl to the sand and to you
Watching the sun slowly disappear from view
The air is chilled but her dreams keep her warm
Her hair whips around in the wind
Her knees pulled up tight she welcomes the night
Sings in a voice that is quiet and thin
The sand seems to glisten reflecting the lights
Shining yellow from little row houses
It was raining before but now it is calm
Her path seems to trace her last footsteps
The sky growing dark, clouds hiding the islands
The sea stained with oranges and blues
The fog slips in silent to wrap the shore’s black rock
Brings the dream girl to the sand and to you
Watching the sun slowly disappear from view
One day and counting the steps in wet sand
One day and sounding like she’d like to stay here
First night of breathing the air with a salt tang
Sprinkle of stars in the midnight air
I walk on this sand, no rocks and no woman
I bottle the thoughts that seek out the dream one
I question the myth of the dream of the mermaid
Look out to the sea for a hint of where she’s gone
She must have come ashore on some other dreamer’s beach
