Fingers of the hillside dig deep into the ground
Afraid of all that power, afraid of all the sound
Afraid that I’m afraid, afraid what I’ve allowed
Afraid that though I’m screaming, you will not hear a sound
Foundation it is shaking, walls are falling down
House slides down the hillside, green is turning brown
Sound is overwhelming, sun has gone to bed
Caught me without warning, water swirls around my head
When mountains fall down into mountains
Shake the trees off of their sides
We’ve only been here for a moment
They’ve been doing it all of their lives
Could have been an earthquake, might have been a storm
Instead my house is drowning, instead I’m all alone
Woke to find you missing, woke to hold you close
Went to find you somewhere but I couldn’t find a soul
My throat is raw from screaming, home is wet and mud
Standing on the back porch as it’s taken by the flood
Went to find you missing, want to find you here
Our house it just keeps sliding, feel nothing but this fear
When mountains fall down into mountains
Shake the trees off of their sides
We’ve only been here for a moment
They’ve been doing it all of their lives
Fear I cannot breathe here, fear I cannot see
Fear I’m blind and lame here, fear the deep blue sea
Throat is raw from screaming, thoughts have slipped aside
Fire long since gone now, the ashes slick the ride
At the end of this long nighttime, the end of this steep slope
Limbs are all but frozen, air can’t find my throat
Sliding through a canyon, spinning through the trees
Let me pour out into ocean, let me drift out to the sea
When mountains fall down into mountains
Shake the trees off of their sides
We’ve only been here for a moment
They’ve been doing it all of their lives
We’ve only been here for a moment
They’ve been doing it all of their lives
