When the clouds are crying tears of joy
And the sun looks like a long lost toy
Sit and stare at that old Polaroid
Does the dawn still make you smile?
When the stars splash ‘cross the darkened night
Like a veil of tiny fireflies
I hold my jacket closed so warm and tight
Do you greet the chill with laughter?
The river flows so muddy and swift
I crawl right down to the water’s edge
The longest days seem just like they stretch
Until I want them to lie down a bit
So I can whisper a prayer
So many people they just come and go
I wish I knew what I knew long ago
The steps I take in vain are blind and slow
Do you still move like a dancer?
This morning waited for my dream to end
The one I have about my missing friends
I sit right here and watch the river bend
Is the light still shining down on you?
The river flows so muddy and swift
I crawl right down to the water’s edge
The longest nights seem just like they stretch
Until I want them to lie down a bit
So I can whisper a prayer
