Black as Night

Henry Stewart & Michelle Rosenblum

Crow black as night glints in the light
Of the moon rising over my shoulder
Been here so long, focused and strong
Back against the cool of this boulder

The hot desert wind is raising the dust
From a half moon we carved in the dark rock
The air feels like nothing but our heat standing up
Like time here has crawled to a full stop

Brush the night sky and paint me a star
Night so close wants to blanket our bodies
Lay here with you when the black goes so dark
Your bright eyes a cascade of diamonds

Sleep by the fire at the mouth of a cave
Waiting for someone to show us their face
Fall into silence, drop ourselves down
Bury the back of our heads in the ground break

Got all my memories tied up with string
In a box hidden deep in my closet
All that I have had does not mean a thing
If I didn’t have you here to look at

Brush the night sky and paint me a star
Night so close wants to blanket our bodies
Lay here with you when the black goes so dark
Your bright eyes a cascade of diamonds
