Carnival Dog

There is a carnival dog at my window
A woman who hates me at the door
I never gave nothing for something
I always paid something for more

The dog keeps on grinning and I don’t think that’s good
He’s got a little piece of skin in his teeth
The woman keeps knocking while I dig down through the floor
Trying to find my way to some kind of relief

There is a carnival dog at my window
A woman who hates me at the door
I never gave nothing for something
I always paid something for more

Please don’t touch me like that I am liable to crack
And my hands are important to me
You can see that we both have found something we lack
Might be the will or the want to be free

There is a carnival cat at my window
A woman who loves me at the door
I never gave something for nothing
I always paid nothing for more

I never gave something for nothing
I always paid nothing for more
There is a carnival cat at my window
And a woman who loves me at the door
There is a carnival cat at my window
And a woman who loves me at the door
