Saint Peter

St. Peter won’t you tell me what my name is?
Did I make the grade or do I remain faceless?
Do I go below and battle with the shameless?
Or will you open up the gates and let me in?

I’ve burned so many bridges
Feels like a matchstick forest
Sitting straight over my shoulder
Got nowhere left to hide

The sea is getting deeper
Can’t feel the sand beneath my feet here
That boat’s just out of reach dear
As it silently drifts on by

St. Peter won’t you tell me what my name is?
Did I make the grade or do I remain faceless?
Do I go below and battle with the shameless?
Or will you open up the gates and let me in?

Found a map but lost my compass
Took a nap, I was not conscious
Heard a slap I thought was nonsense
But it sure did wake me right

Take my name if you still have to
Leave me lame and take my laughter
Take me slow or take me fast
Or do I have to plead my case?

St. Peter won’t you tell me what my name is?
Did I make the grade or do I remain faithless?
Do I go below and battle with the shameless?
Or will you open up the gates and let me in?
Will you open up the gates and let me in?
Open up the gates and let me in!
